The second quarterly GuideStar International newsletter was published at the end of April this year. In it we feature an interview with Benoît Fontaine (Advisor, the King Baudouin Foundation) who is working towards developing GuideStar in Belgium. We also feature updates from our country partners in the United Kingdom, the United States, Korea, Japan, Israel and South Africa as well as a variety of articles which speak to the development of civil society worldwide.

First phase of project encourages deployment

The GuideStar Europe eTEN project has ended and the workshop entitled 'Opportunities for GuideStar Europe: Different Environments, Different Solutions' was held on the 1st December 2008 to present results and lessons learnt to a variety of European stakeholders.

Ultimately, Guidestar Europe will draw together into a single relational database current and pertinent information about the entire civil society sector in the European Union, enhancing transparency and accountability while creating a knowledge infrastructure for the sector and its stakeholders across Europe.
The next phase of the GuideStar Europe project will include both a roll-out of the GuideStar model to more countries and a launch of a pan-European search capability therefore having a lasting consequence for the transparency and roles of CSOs in Europe.

From Local to Global: The Value of CSO Information - The Closing of the First Phase of the GuideStar Europe Project

The first phase of the GuideStar Europe program is coming to its end. To present the results, the lessons learnt and introduce the development phase of the project a series of events are planned to take place in Berlin, Budapest, Dublin and London. These events will provide a forum to show the results of country level developments and provide a synthesis for the European work.
