Researching the feasibility of building a GuideStar in Ireland

During 2007 an Irish project team has set out to explore the feasibility of creating a GuideStar in the Republic of Ireland. This involves

If the evaluation outcome is positive, in 2008 we will prepare a business plan leading to the development and launch of GuideStar in Ireland.

Who’s involved

The GuideStar feasibility research project in Ireland is being hosted by Irish Charities Tax Research Ltd., a registered charity set up by the Irish Charities Tax Reform Group with the specific aim of providing research, information, and education on taxation and regulation issues that affect charities in Ireland.

An oversight group of independent civil society actors including philanthropy, research and charity sector interests been convened to assure the credibility, authority and robustness of the feasibility study process and resulting reports and plans. Its members are:

  • Owen Keenan (Director, Middlequarter, formerly CEO Barnardos Ireland)
  • Paddy Maguinness (Deputy CEO, Concern)
  • Clodagh O’Brien (Not-for-Profit Business Association)
  • Fergus O'Ferrall (Director, Adelaide Hospital Society)
  • Andrew O'Regan (Programme Director, Centre for Non-Profit Management, TCD)
  • Hans Zomer (Director, Dóchas, the Irish Association of Development NGOs)

The project is being managed by Patricia Quinn, and is funded by donations from the public, private, not-for-profit and philanthropy sectors and from the European Commission – eTEN programme.
